We're having auditions!!

The Aldershot Players are having auditions for our fall 2010 show The Kitchen Witches by Caroline Smith.

This is a fast paced Canadian Comedy, full of surprises.

Plot Synopsis:

Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle are two "mature" cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years, ever since Stephen Biddle dated one and married the other. When circumstances put them together on a TV show, "The Kitchen Witches", the insults are flung harder than the food! Dolly's long-suffering TV producer son Stephen, tries to keep them on track but as long as Dolly's dressing room is one inch closer to the set than Isobel's, it's a losing battle, and the show becomes a ratings hit. It's Martha Stewart meets Jerry Springer.

Director Cher Lyford is looking for the following characters:

  • Dolly Biddle - 40-50ish, a dynamo of a woman who likes not only to cook, but to eat as well. She is the host of a Ukrainian cooking show called "Baking with Babscha". She is intensely proud of her son Stephen (the producer of her show), and loves to dispense advice along with her recipes. She hates Isobel Lomax with a passion.
  • Stephen Biddle - 20-30ish, a nervous young man who likes his job as a cable show producer/director even though his overbearing mom is the star of the show. He's a lover not a fighter but no one has asked him yet.
  • Isobel Lomax - 40-50ish, she thinks even Martha Stewart could learn something from her, because she trained at the Cordon Bleu. She feels she is so much better than that fake "Babscha" Dolly. She has had her own show "Busy Izzy" and has much more class. She hates Dolly Biddle.
  • Camera Guy/Girl -- younger/student, this is a somewhat small role (hey, there are no small roles!) in that there is only one line of dialogue, but will be on stage quite a bit (with camera).

Audition dates:
Sunday May 30th 2-4pm, Monday May 31st 7-9pm

Location:
West Plains United Church 549 Plains Rd. W., Burlington

What do you need to bring:
Nothing! Except a willingness to have fun!

See you there!

Calling all Directors, Producers, Stage Managers!!

TAP is accepting applications for our upcoming 2010-2011 season for directors, producers and stage managers. We're looking for good people, who enjoy having fun and want to put on a show (not necessarily in that order!).

directorSo, have you ever been in a show or seen a show and said "Why did he move there?" or "What was the point of that monologue?" or "Did we really need to see that on stage?", here's your chance to put your directing touch on a show.

Or maybe you sat in the audience and wondered "Who did the costumes for this?" or "Couldn't they have found better furniture?" or "Ouch! They probably could have used a breakaway bottle there!", here's your chance to produce a show.

Or maybe you chatted after seeing a show and said "Wow, was that light cue ever late!" or "Did the phone even ring?" or "I don't think that explosion was supposed to happen..", here's your chance to stage manage a show.

Directing, producing, stage managing...they're a lot of work but they're a lot of fun and the rewards are numerous. Interested?? Send us an email, tell us a little bit about yourself, your theatre experience, your favourite colour, etc. and we'll get back to you.

Oh by the way...did I mention you get paid for these three positions? It's not a lot, more of an honourarium than a salary, but enough that you should be able to buy a round of drinks for the cast once in a while.

So send in your application today! Who knows? Your name could become synonymous with Spielberg, Scorcese or Stallone!! Well maybe not Stallone...but those other two guys for sure!
